Take a Journey Through the Manor

Fnd out why we’re not just another boring manor.

The Story of Kernu Manor

Kernu Manor was originally part of the Kohatu estate, granted by Queen Christina’s regency on August 31, 1637, to Magdalena von Neukirch, daughter of Johann von Neukirch. She later married Johann von Ulrich. From 1663, the manor was jointly held by the widowed Magdalena von Ulrich and their children, and in 1671, it was inherited by their son, Ewert. In March 1680, the manor was mortgaged to Diedrich Hasenkrug of Hirschberg.

In 1688, Diedrich von Hirschberg’s estate was reduced, but it remained under his ownership as a leasehold. After several changes in ownership, the manor eventually came into the hands of Count Berend Heinrich Tiesenhausen in 1784, following a public auction. Later, his daughter, Countess Anna Dorothea Ungern-Sternberg, inherited it, and the manor underwent several further transfers between prominent families.

In the 19th century, the manor became associated with important figures, including the family of General Nikolai Wrangell, who played a significant role during the Russian Civil War. By the end of the 18th century, the estate center was developed with grand plans for a classical manor house, designed by the architect Carl Ludvig Engel.

In the early 20th century, the manor changed hands several more times before being acquired by the Evore Company in 2013. Extensive renovations followed, and today, the manor is home to a café, and plans are in place to restore the buildings for public use, including a hotel, seminar and conference center, and restaurant.
